A Little Danica Update

Danica had another follow-up appointment with her pediatric orthopaedic specialist yesterday. He took x-rays of her hips again and did some more manipulations to feel if they were slipping out of place. Her x-rays showed that her right hip (the one that had the problems to start with) is still slightly uneven with her left hip but he feels that with a bit more growing, that should straighten itself out. He also could not feel any slipping when he was moving her joints around. So, all in all pretty good news. He wants to see her again in 9 months to do another x-ray to make sure that everything has grown properly and that she is properly mobile.

On the mobility front, she has mastered sitting and has started moving around by scooting on her bum. Her favourite thing right now is to scoot over to the book shelf and start pulling all of her and Emily's books off of the shelves!

Circus Fun

Today we went to the circus for the first time with the girls. Emily had a really good time and Danica actually slept through a good portion of it. Both girls are crashed having naps right now. Emily's bed is covered with old sheets and pillow cases as she did not want to take her "face" off.

Rainy Sunday

It's quiet time in the house right now. Greg is working nights tonight so he is taking a nap and both girls are down for their naps as well. Keizer has also decided that the computer room is a good place to drift off and I am being serenaded by his snoring right now. I have a pot of spaghetti sauce that I made after church simmering on the stove for the afternoon and it looks like the skies could open up at any minute and offer a lovely thundershower. I love thunderstorms - especially when we are all safe and sound at home. Sigh - I couldn't ask for a more peaceful Sunday afternoon.

We've had a fun past few weeks. It's been really nice here the past bit and shorts have been a necessity. As part of our summer fun, we have added quite a few items to our backyard. When I look out the kitchen window, all I can see is kids stuff and I have to say that I love it. The girls have so much fun in the backyard and I like the convenience of having it all in the yard instead of having to go to the park.

Kitchen, Mother's Day and Other Stuff

The kitchen is finally done!!! The flooring was installed this week and the cabinet guy came today to finish off the kick boards and the trim along the top of the cabinets. The window treatments should be done at the end of this week and our tile is on order and should be here the beginning of June and then the back splash can be done. We still have some other finish work to do (quarter round and new plugs and light switches) but the big jobs are done.

The weather here has been absolutely beautiful lately - I've actually worn shorts a few times. The girls and I joined Auntie Kathy and the kids she babysits at the park today. They had a lot of fun playing on the ocean liner there and feeding the ducks in the pond.

What A Day

Today has been rather eventful. We left the house this morning to attend a yearly 50% off plant and tree sale just outside of the city. We spent a few hours there and found some nice bushes and some perennial plants to plant in the front of our house.

From there, we headed off to my nephew Noah's second birthday party. We had been there for just about an hour when Greg got called into work. We had only taken one vehicle so my sister-in-law Megan, graciously let Greg take her car back into the city so that he could come home and change and head off to work.

I stayed at the party with the girls. Emily was getting into Noah's presents a bit too much (taking gifts out of bags and ripping open paper faster than Evelyn or Noah could keep up with) so I sent her off to play. She and another little girl went on the trampoline to play for a while. Emily just sits on the trampoline while another kid gently bounces on it so that she could bounce a bit too. The next thing I know, she is crying a bit and doesn't look very well. Somehow she had hurt her leg on the trampoline. So we left Danica in the care of Grandma and Grandpa van Leeuwen and headed back to the city to pick up Grandma Hodgkinson and then to head to Children's Hospital.

By the time we got to the hospital (I had ice on her leg for the trip), she was no longer weight bearing on it at all. The doctor saw her and thankfully, there are no broken bones, most likely a mild sprain or a pretty badly pulled muscle. Treatment is a few rounds of Motrin for pain and swelling and monitoring of her temperature and a few other things to make sure that everything heals well. Total time at hospital - 45 minutes - bless them for that.

After that, we head to pick up Danica and then home for some supper with Grandma and Grandpa Hodgkinson who kindly stayed to help me get the girls fed and ready for bed.

I'm exhausted.

Welcome to the Family Little One

Yesterday we welcomed a new addition to our family - a new cousin named Charlie Reid. He was born a month early and weighed in at 5 pounds 9 ounces. He is so tiny and adorable!! He looks just like his big brother Aidan. I forgot my camera so pictures will come soon! Emily is excited to have another cousin and it is nice for Danica to have another one close in age for her to play with growing up. Because he was so early, I was running over to Bean and Shane's place last night with a bassinet and bouncy chair and a few other newborn things that I had yet to send over - caught me totally off guard!!
